Internship Program, JW LEE Center for Global Medicine

★Due to Coronavirus (COVID-19), JW LEE Center for Global Medicine Internship has decided to only recruit domestic applicants at the moment. 

Also, we have no vacancy until December 31. 2020.  

So if you would like to apply for an internship , please fill out your available date from upcoming 2021.  


The JW Lee Center for Global Medicine at Seoul National University School of Medicine was founded in 2012 to continue the legacy of Dr. Jong-Wook Lee, a former Director-General of the World Health Organization who believed in providing health care for all. Since then, the CGM has been actively engaging in global partnership and research to reduce health disparities globally. The CGM promotes academic collaboration both domestically and internationally to implement multi-disciplinary and comprehensive global health education and research.

The JW Lee center is currently accepting applicants for the global health internship program. The objectives of the internship program are to: 


1. Expose students to the work and the field of global health


2. Provide mentorship


3. Promote Critical thinking on the issues of poverty, human rights, and social justice from the perspective of global health


4. Strengthen the capacity to analyze and recognize the multi-disciplinary aspects of global health



Intern’s responsibilities include: 

1. Weekly seminar and presentation on various topics and areas of global health


2. Assist in global health projects of your interests to gain work experience


3. Attend weekly meetings and lectures when available


Who we are looking for: 


1. Currently enrolled at a university or equivalent institution (those are currently on leave of absence or have already      graduated are also eligible to apply)


2. Be able to commit to at least 6 weeks


3. Be able to write, read, and communicate in English


The positions at the JW LEE Center for Global Medicine offer unpaid internships which require a minimum commitment of 6 weeks and may be extended. It also may translate into a paid position depending upon performance and availability.

1) Global Surgery: Capacity Building Project for Pediatric Cardiac Surgery
- All of the processes of the ultrasound diagnosis, surgery, and post-op care are part of hands-on training. Throughout the whole patient-care process, Korean staff share their knowledge and skills that can be applied in the local setting that requires active communication with the local staff.  In addition, local medical staff are invited to Korea to continue the training in the Korean medical setting. Invited trainees are composed of the whole surgical team, including cardiologists, anesthesiologists, perfusionists and nurses.

2) Project for Hospital Infection Prevention and Control in Nepal
- It aims to strengthen the hospital infection control system in Nepal by disseminating advanced hospital infection control techniques through local workshops and providing continuous consultation. Invitational training in Korea and educational workshop in Nepal are organized for Nepalese medical staff.

3) The Ultrasound, CT and MRI Education Program in Nepal / in Vietnam: Obstetric, Fetal, Neonatal, and Congenital Anomaly
- The JW LEE Center for Global Medicine partnered with the Dhulikhel Hospital, Kathmandu University (Nepal) and Military Hospital 175 and University Medical Center (Vietnam) to launch the Ultrasound, CT and MRI Education Program in Nepal and Vietnam from 2016 to 2018. This program aims to improve medical knowledge and skills of diagnostic and procedural applications for obstetric, fetal, and neonatal and congenital anomaly for obstetric gynecologists, radiologists, and pediatricians.

4) Project for High Quality of Trauma Center and Trauma Care in Vietnam
- As a collaboration with Military Hospital 175 in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, JW LEE CGM initiated an educational program on trauma care for the trauma center in Vietnam which is scheduled to be completed in September 2019. From 2015, JW LEE CGM provided invitational training in Korea for orthopedics and plastic surgery surgeons and held workshops in Vietnam.

5) Training Curriculum Development for Primary Healthcare Professionals in Vietnam
- The education program aims at setting the sustainable primary health care system through education for primary health care personnel at the local area. Jointly developed curriculum with Ho Chi Minh University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMP) is made to meet the local needs.

6) Global Health Curriculum Development for Medical Students
- JW LEE CGM searches to develop an innovative global health course of providing educational opportunities for medical students who are interested in global health by offering both mandatory and elective courses in the regular curriculum.

7) Evaluation Research on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease(COPD) prevention project in NEPAL
through Improved Cooking Stove(ICS)
- JW LEE CGM works with Dhulikhel Hospital and Raphael International to implement improved cooking stove projects that make clean cooking and better quality of indoor air accessible to families in the mountainous area in Nepal. JW LEE Center supports development, distribution, and monitoring and evaluation of clean air that transform lives by improving respiratory health, and save money and time.

8) School-based Health Improvement Program at Silang Cavite Philippines
-The program aims to treat the patients and educate the students on personal hygiene so they can have a healthy school life. The CaSA medical mission is purposed to aid in such life-long plans of students by playing a part in maintaining the students’ health.
