JW LEE Center for Global Medicine International Symposium for Primary Health Care in Global Health

 The Department of Primary Health Care (Department Head Bi-Ryong Cho) from Seoul National University (SNU) College of Medicine JW LEE Center for Global Medicine (Director Woong-Han Kim) hosted the International Symposium for Primary Health Care Global Health on October 16th (Wed) at Seoul National University CMI.

 This year’s Symposium held lectures on current state of primary care in the field of global health sector as well as the its major cases and focal points. The Symposium was organized to provide a platform for both researchers and practitioners in primary health care to gain a better understanding of global health projects specifically in primary care.

 

 At the event, many experts including professors and students from Seoul National University Hospital, as well as students from Health Policy program of JW LEE Fellowship program were in attendance. Presentation by professor Masamine Jimba from Tokyo University graduate school of Public Health. Presentation by Director Do Van Dung, a director of University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh graduate school of Public Health. Panel discussion and Q&A session by Phan Le An, a Family Medicine professor from University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh and Nguyen Thi Minh, PhD from University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh graduate school of Public Health were in order of presentation.

 

 Belong Cho, the Department Head of Primary Health Care Department from SNU College of Medicine JW LEE Center, shared the experiences of various experts and stakeholders in various field of global health at the opening ceremony, hoping to raise an awareness of importance in primary care in global health and grasp on its current state.

 

 “I believe this Symposium will play an important role in promoting both international governmental cooperation by emphasizing on the importance of global health and primary care, and achieve many accomplishments at the forefront,” said Chan-Soo Shin, the Dean of SNU College of Medicine who gave a welcoming address

 

 “I hope you get to experience and learn more through this Symposium, and get to see what we are currently facing in the field of global health,” Director Woong-Han Kim from SNU College of Medicine JW LEE Center for Global Medicine also attended the Symposium and gave his congratulatory address.

 

 Professor Masamine Jimba presented on the subject of “Primary Care in Global Health: Its Tradition and Innovation,” introducing the definition and differences between primary care and primary health care, as well as on people-centered health care. He also gave a lecture on social and personalized approaches, and precision global health.

 

 Professor Do Van Dung, who is also working with JW LEE Center’s Vietnam Primary Care Capacity Building Training Program, gave a presentation on “The Current Status of Primary Care System and the Strengthening of Primary Physician’s Competence in Vietnam.” Professor Dung shared his knowledge in Vietnam’s economic and political characteristics, health care system, and primary health care.

 

 “I’m very honored to attend this year’s Symposium, and I hope we continue to strive for better future together by putting our concerted effort in developing primary health care,” said Sang-Min Park, the Department Head of Family Medicine, SNU College of Medicine, who gave a closing address.
