Aakash Pradhan, an audiologist from Dhulikhel Hospital, was invited as a fellow to participate in Nepal Infant Hearing Screening and Audiological Rehabilitation Program in Seoul. The program was supported by Seoul National University Hospital and JW Lee Center for Global Medicine.
The 4-week program(from April 15- May 14) consisted of lectures and hands training on screening, diagnostic test, and rehabilitation audiometry. Reflecting on his fellowship, Aakash thought the training was very informative, and he plans to implement a definite protocol for hearing screening and rehabilitation to better assess the infants with hearing loss back in Nepal.
He was able to build confidence in counselling and encouraging the patients to seek assistance in hearing aid, and learned the importance of team-based work. Although he acknowledged the limitations he is facing back home, such as lack of infrastructure and equipment, Aakash is optimistic and committed to build a long-term and sustainable program back home.
